Countryside backs Storm in plastics battle

Independent outdoor clothing and equipment retailer Countryside Ski & Climb has introduced STORM’s new recyclable and eco-friendly aluminium bottle product range in store with the aim of reducing the amount of single use plastics sold in store.

The Herts retailer is stocking STORM’s aluminium range of cleaning, proofing and aftercare products for clothing, including jackets, fleeces, baselayers and down products, and footwear, including suede and leather boots and shoes. Products are available both in store and online.

The retailer’s long-term goal is to completely eliminate single-use plastics sold in store to reduce the environmental impact of plastic waste going to landfill and into the ocean.

A huge 91% of discarded plastic isn’t recycled and it has been predicted that by mid-century, the oceans will contain more plastic waste than fish, ton for ton*. With aluminium much more recyclable than plastic and aluminium packaging having a higher recycle rate than plastic** the new aluminium bottles offer an easily recyclable option that will help to reduce the amount of disposable plastic waste ending up in the environment.

Anthony Greasby, Owner of Countryside Ski & Climb said: “As an eco-conscious business we are constantly looking at ways to reduce the environmental impact of how we do business. As a company we want to completely move away from selling single use plastic packaging and so switching to Storm’s aluminium range made perfect sense. The range also includes PFC-free proofing products; making them even more environmentally friendly.

“We’re not looking to preach to our customers, but we do believe that it is our job to be more environmentally friendly by offering them good quality products that not only deliver unbeatable performance, but are eco-friendly and sustainable and we’ve had some really positive feedback from customers on the aluminium range.”

“We have tested Storm’s products ourselves and we believe these products are best in class compared to other options on the market,” Greasby continued. “They deliver the best performance in a ‘real world’ scenario and are extremely easy to use with the exclusive ‘one wash system’. Being both good for the environment and good for the customer, Storm offers a win win solution to aftercare. We’ve stocked Storm since 2012 and this year it has become our biggest aftercare brand; significantly because of its aluminium packaging.”
