HDWool has appointed former Birdgedale MD Steve Fowler as general manager with immediate effect.
The firm recently announced significant investment from Innovate UK – the Government body aimed at encouraging innovation leadership in the United Kingdom – and Sky Ocean Ventures, the investment side of the broadcaster which believes HDWool can help reduce the amount of micro plastic in the ocean.
Recent media reports have centred on how many textile micro-filaments come off a garment during the laundry process and are now polluting the oceans, whereas wool is known to compost within the fortnight it takes for this waste water to go through municipal treatment processes.
Fowler formerly worked at UK retailer Wilderness Ways, and The Brasher Boot Company. More recently he was MD at Bridgedale Outdoor where he developed both home and international markets.
“I am pleased to be joining HDWool at such an exciting stage of it’s business development” said Fowler. “For me the beauty of HDWool is that it fits with my own environmental beliefs whilst being really well positioned to deliver a unique product that supports ongoing sustainability”.
Jo Dawson, Chairman of HDWool added: “I am pleased to welcome Steve to lead the HDWool Team as I know that he will use his extensive experience and knowledge gained in the outdoor market to work with us all to develop the strategic plan for the brand. I founded HDWool from a passion to turn the natural benefits of wool into modern-world solutions for the consumer and the environment. I am delighted that Steve buys into this vision which will help him to develop and bring new customers on-board for our HDWool products”.
