The It’s Great Out There Coalition has extended an open invitation to the outdoor trade to attend its 2018 Annual Assembly.
The meeting has been scheduled to take place in Malmo on the evening before the start of the European Outdoor Summit, when hundreds of senior figures from the industry will gather. The coalition assembly will be held on Tuesday 18th September and as well as including the organisation’s formal business, the event will showcase the work being rolled out across Europe as part of the #itsgreatoutthere campaign.
Founded by the European Outdoor Group, the It’s Great Out There Coalition is an International Non Profit Association that has been initially funded by membership fees from many of Europe’s leading outdoor businesses. Based in Brussels, the coalition now has 30 full members and five associate members, and is leading the #itsgreatoutthere campaign to encourage more European citizens to lead healthier lives by getting active in the outdoors.
As well as coordinating direct promotional activity, the It’s Great Out There Coalition awards grants to projects that are designed to give people their first outdoors experience. To date, #itsgreatoutthere grants have supported initiatives involving partners in Germany, Italy, Austria, Spain, Finland, France, the Netherlands and the UK. In addition, the campaign is collaborating with organisations such as Unsplash, KLIFBOX and Horizonsports.tv to communicate positive messages and encourage more people to get active outdoors. The coalition also works closely with the European Commission to develop outdoor-themed content for the commission’s flagship European Week of Sport and #BeActive projects, and is working to secure public funds to promote outdoor activities.
Andrew Denton, secretary general of the It’s Great Out There Coalition, commented: “We are really excited about the momentum that #itsgreatoutthere has achieved during the last year, but even more so by the longer-term potential of this campaign. Running our Annual Assembly this way will allow us to share some of our early successes with an industry audience and highlight the many opportunities that still exist for organisations and individuals to get involved in this hugely positive and very important initiative for whole sector.
“We appreciate that the European Outdoor Summit will represent a very busy couple of days for delegates. With that in mind, we have created an agenda that will keep our meeting short, while providing a great insight into the work of the coalition and highlighting how to get involved in a campaign that has already reached many tens of millions of consumers throughout Europe. I urge anyone who is attending the summit to join us and find out more about the vital work of the It’s Great Out There Coalition.”
The Annual Assembly, will run from 17:30-18:15 on Tuesday 18th September in the Clarion Hotel and Congress. All European Outdoor Summit delegates will be welcome to attend.
