La Sportiva gives Black Friday boost to EOCA

Firm donates percentage of sales to conservation group

La Sportiva has used its online sales during the recent so-called Black Friday weekend to support nature conservation, donating 15 per cent of the weekend’s income to the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA).

EOCA was contacted by the firm in the autumn, which wanted to raise extra funds for the Association to spend on conservation as an answer to combat a weekend increasingly used for ‘over-indulgence’. The event was promoted in both La Sportiva and EOCA’s communications before and during the weekend.

In total, an additional €2,000 for the Association was raised and EOCA will put 100 per cent of the money into the conservation projects it supports during 2018. These projects will be chosen by members of the Association and also the public during an annual online vote. EOCA funds conservation projects around the world which conserve threatened landscapes, habitats and species, and which also have a clear link to the outdoor enthusiast.

Catherine Savidge, joint general manager of EOCA said:“We are extremely grateful to the team at La Sportiva which has been very supportive of EOCA since it joined four years ago. They have always been involved in activities to raise further funds and awareness for conservation. This move to raising funds and awareness with customers online has proved to be very positive and we very much look forward to committing the funds to worthwhile projects next year.”

“As a brand born and operating in the mountains for almost 90 years, La Sportiva pays careful attention to environmental and climate issues” added Francesco Trenti, La Sportiva E-commerce manager. “We are aware of how the landscape around us is changing and it is our responsibility to inform our fans and clients and invite them to take action. Since we have been a partner of EOCA for many years and believe in the project, we thought that the Black Friday sale would be a perfect occasion to spread the message of the Association and to devolve part of the income to it. Hopefully, in the near future, more companies will care for this type of project, with the objective of supporting the most precious thing we have and belong to: planet earth”.
